The common starting points
| Start date | Why couples pick it | Watch out |
|---|---|---|
| The day it became official | Clear, both of you agree on it | Some couples never had one exact day |
| First date | Easy to remember, romantic | Can feel early if it took a while to get serious |
| First kiss | A shared moment you both remember | Sometimes remembered differently |
| Moving in | A practical "our life together" date | Skips the time before |
| Wedding | Already your anniversary | Two counters if you also count dating |
What about a break?
This question comes up a lot on Quora: if you split up for a few weeks, do you reset the counter? There is no wrong answer. Most couples keep the original date because the story is still one story. If a fresh start matters to you, a new Day 1 is just as valid. Talk about it once and agree.
Day 1 or day 0?
If you count the first day as Day 1, today's number is "our 1,000th day". If you count it as day 0, it is "1,000 days since". Duoleaf and our days together calculator use Day 1.
When you don't remember the exact date
Check old messages, photos or calendar invites. If it is still fuzzy, pick a date close to it that you both like. In Duoleaf you can also skip the date and add it later; Home simply shows "Add your day 1" until you do.
Questions
Do most couples count from the first date or from being official?
From being official is the most common choice, but the first date is popular too. Pick the one you both like.
If we broke up and got back together, do we reset the date?
Most couples keep the original date. A new Day 1 is fine too if a fresh start feels right.
Is the first day Day 1 or day 0?
Duoleaf counts the day you got together as Day 1. For a days since number, subtract one.
Can we change the date later in Duoleaf?
Yes. Either of you can change it in Settings. It changes for both, and the other sees a small note on Home.
